REVIEW: St. Patrick’s Day Treats at Disney World Resorts
Walt Disney World has new treats around the parks and resorts for St. Patrick’s Day! This March, new food and drinks are available at Disney Parks for St. Patrick’s Day with some on the menu until March 17th with others remaining through the month. We went out to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa to try the Irish Cream Cheesecake and to Disney’s Beach Club for the Pot O’ Gold Mousse - scroll down for all the details!
St. Patrick’s Day Food Guide at Disney Parks 2024
The Irish Cream Cheesecake is available for purchase at Gasparilla Island Grill, the quick service location at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. Gasparilla Island Grill is not located in the main lobby of the Grand Floridian - when you exit the lobby through the doors near 1900 Park Fare and the Grand Floridian Café you’ll walk to the left along the main building to find Gasparilla Island Grill facing the boat marina and a beautiful view of Magic Kingdom.
The Irish Cream Cheesecake is a Bailey’s Irish Cream cheesecake with chantilly cream and gold ‘coins’. The cake costs $6.49 plus tax and will be available on the menu through March 31st. It is eligible for a Disney Dining Plan snack credit. If you are using the Disney Dining Plan, this is an okay use of a snack credit to get the most value out of your credits, coming in at the bottom of the good value range ($6.50 and above).
The Irish Cream Cheesecake definitely befits the grandeur of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort with the decorative green “GF” logo on top of the chantilly cream. The chantilly cream is a thin layer on top of a Baileys cheesecake with a graham cracker crust. Additionally, there are gold ‘coins’ which are essentially round sprinkles.
The two different textures of the lighter Chantilly cream and more dense cheesecake pair well together with a little bit of crunch from the gold ‘coins’. The cheesecake doesn’t have a strong alcohol flavor from the Baileys, tasting predominantly like vanilla with a creamy texture. Baileys is a great choice to use to enhance a traditional cheesecake, and definitely gives this dessert more dimension. Overall, we enjoyed this treat- it’s a nice departure from many of the cupcakes and cookies Disney often offers for holidays.
Baileys Irish Cream is the original Irish cream and was conceived the same year Magic Kingdom opened, in 1971! It officially went on the market in 1974. Baileys Irish Cream was created in London but is now made in Ireland and Northern Ireland by Diageo. Baileys is made of cream, cocoa, and Irish whiskey emulsified with vegetable oil.
While St. Patrick’s Day is on March 17th, the Irish Cream Cheesecake will be on the menu through the end of March!
The Pot O’ Gold Mousse is available for purchase at various Disney resorts including Disney’s Beach Club Resort, Disney’s BoardWalk, Disney’s Old Key West Resort, Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, and Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. We picked ours up at Disney’s Beach Club Resort at Beach Club Marketplace, located in the lobby building through the gift shop. It was pre-packaged in a plastic container in the grab-and-go section.
The Pot O’ Gold Mousse is an Irish stout cake with Irish cream mousse, a candy rainbow, and gold ‘coins’. The cake costs $6.49 plus tax and will be available on the menu through March 17th. It is eligible for a Disney Dining Plan snack credit. If you are using the Disney Dining Plan, this is an okay use of a snack credit to get the most value out of your credits, coming in at the bottom of the good value range ($6.50 and above).
The Pot O’ Gold Mousse is perfectly themed for St. Patrick’s Day and is almost too cute to eat! The cake and mousse are inside a green chocolate shell with a gold decorative piece, topped with frosting, gold ‘coins’, and a rainbow sour candy belt. I thought it might be overly sweet but I found the flavors to be well-balanced. The chocolate shell was very thin but added some crunch to the dessert with a Magic Shell texture, and contained the dense Irish stout cake and light Irish cream mousse center. I also loved the rainbow sour candy belt but the moisture inside the container did cause it to fall down after some time. The frosting on top was very sturdy and sweet but balanced well with the less sweet chocolate in the cake. Of the two desserts we tried, I preferred this one!
The Pot O’ Gold Mousse will be on the menu at various Disney resorts until March 17th!
We also found a St. Patrick’s Day cookie available at Disney’s Contemporary Resort that was not included in the food guide from Disney Parks Blog, but we recently tried the same cookie with different color sprinkles for Valentine’s Day so we skipped it. The St. Patrick’s Day Pot of Gold Cookie is a sugar cookie with Shamrock sprinkles and gold stars, a swirl of mint chocolate ganache, and gold stars on top for $4.49 plus tax. The cookie is available at Contempo Cafe and will likely leave the menu on March 17th to make way for an Easter cookie (this is speculative on my part).
