Disney Planet Possible

Disney is highlighting the actions they’re taking to protect the planet through sustainability and conservation in a special Earth Month initiative called Disney Planet Possible. Disney Parks Blog states,

“For nearly a century, we at Disney have found inspiration in the wonders of the world we share, and have taken action to support a healthier planet for people and wildlife around the globe. That includes reducing our environmental footprint, caring for wildlife and their habitats, and creating stories that inspire action. We call these collective efforts, Disney Planet Possible — tangible actions we’re taking to put possibility into practice and inspire optimism for a brighter, more sustainable future.”

Disney is centering the Planet Possible Earth Month initiative in their commitments to conservation, environmental sustainability, and storytelling. We’ve previously written about the highlighted storytelling this month in this post- check out this Disney Parks Blog post for highlights on conservation and sustainability.

In conservation, Disney has made a $120 million investment since 1995 in the Disney Conservation Fund, helping to support community members working in conservation, protecting more than 1000 species through biodiversity initiatives, and providing nature experiences to kids around the world. Disney is also continuing their work on the previously announced 2030 Environmental Goals to “achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions for direct operations”, reduce waste, develop more environmentally-friendly packaging and products, and build in more sustainable ways. Recently, Disney has been working on these goals by diverting 61% of company waste from landfills, introducing more plastic-free packaging, and the installation of solar arrays at Castaway Cay, Hong Kong Disneyland, and two new solar facilities at Walt Disney World Resort. The new solar arrays for Walt Disney World are in two different counties and are expected to come online in 2023. Once the two new facilities are active, Walt Disney World Resort will be able to meet 40% of the resort’s annual electricity needs with solar sources. For more on the two new solar facilities, check out this Disney Parks Blog post.
